Since 1948, the New York Propane Gas Association (NYPGA) has been providing services that communicate, educate, and promote the propane industry in New York. Every year, NYPGA keeps consumers up-to-date with propane awareness and safety through consumer education activities; offers professionals training for managers, driver safety, emergency response, and Certified Employee Training Programs; and actively participates in developing standards for the propane industry through lobbying at the national, state, and local levels.
NYPGA recently launched scholarships for more than $80,000 at twelve colleges across New York State. The Elbert Stillwaggon Memorial Scholarships are for students enrolled full-time in the colleges’ Fire Prevention Technology programs and the John Ganey Memorial Scholarships are for students enrolled full-time in the Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technical Services (HVAC/R) programs.
This year, NYPGA hosted the Industry Responders Conference, believed to be the first of its kind in New York, where nearly 175 firefighters and propane industry professionals learned and shared vital propane safety information, response techniques and protocols which are critical to employ during emergencies.
NYPGA, with support from the Propane Education & Research Council, also hosted multiple Propane Autogas Roadshows throughout New York State in 2011, where transportation professionals learned about the capabilities of vehicles fueled by propane autogas. In addition to many informational presentations, a ride-and-drive gave fleet professionals the opportunity to experience the capabilities of a vehicle fueled by propane autogas.
NYPGA is committed to offering opportunities for training and networking with peers, and contributing to operating a safe and successful industry.
